Memorial of Adolf Loos
The park on Janáček Square in Brno (corner of Kounicova and Smetanova street), which was revitalized over the winter, has removed the fences today and is open to the public.
New sidewalks, new wooden benches, new trash cans and a new monument to Adolf Loos. It is conceived as a concrete sculptural form of his tombstone in the Vienna cemetery, divided into four pieces, which Loos, by the way, designed himself two years before his death.
The inscription ADOLF LOOS (the same font and size as on the real Vienna tombstone) made of milky onyx, which glows after dark, is embedded in the concrete.
The fact that the Brno monument is located here is no coincidence. In the place where the Continental Hotel stands, his father had a stonemason's workshop and Adolf grew up here.
